Facing the Challenge

Poverty. Unemployment. Hunger. Isolation. Homelessness. The problems in Toronto continue to escalate, and those problems disproportionately affect the most vulnerable people in the city.

At The Neighbourhood Group Community Services, we see this far too often. That’s why we acted when the Province’s Community Care and Recovery Act stipulated the closure of 10 supervised consumption sites across Ontario. But launching a Charter Challenge against the Act is only the tip of the iceberg of how we fight for change. All of our programs and services are geared towards empowering the people who need it most, giving them the opportunity to improve their lives. And together, that’s exactly what we do.

We work hand in hand with community partners, volunteers and the people who use our services to provide innovative programs that solve immediate problems and get to the root causes of systemic issues. Whether it’s our extensive peer training programs, on-site health clinics for youth, or our Trustee Hub, an initiative that provides support to small, grassroots groups looking to improve our communities, our goal remains the same: to stand up for the people who need it most.

In this Report, we are proud to share inspiring stories of some of those people, like Coleen, Arthur, Jennifer and Alima, and introduce initiatives like our Youth Summer Job campaign and the TNG Challenge - our premier fundraising event for seniors.

In 2024-2025, The Neighbourhood Group Community Services’ in-person and online programs helped improve the lives of 47,160 vulnerable people in priority Toronto neighbourhoods.

Volunteer Spotlight

Thank you to our dedicated volunteers!

Last year, 994 dedicated volunteers delivered more than 85,654 hours of essential support to our community! Whether it’s helping at our Corner Drop-in, delivering Meals on Wheels, giving time as a Board member, acting as a community mediator, doing community outreach, helping at income tax clinics, tutoring, or mentoring, our volunteers make a huge difference in the lives of vulnerable people in Toronto.

“When I came to Canada, I wanted to keep busy and give back to the community. I was lucky to volunteer at the Teesdale Food Bank. It gave me the opportunity to learn more about people from different backgrounds and about working in Canada. Volunteering also opened doors and made it easier for me when I got a full-time job.”
