Our Impact

All lives are improved when everyone in the community succeeds.

The measure of a truly compassionate and just society lies in how we care for our most vulnerable members. At The Neighbourhood Group, we've always provided the highest-quality programs and services to support people in need. But that's not enough. We must tackle the systemic injustices and inequalities that persist at every level of society, from the local to the national and its why we will always work collaboratively with our community to develop innovative solutions and build a more equitable future for all.

10,000 Youth Summer Jobs Campaign

The Neighbourhood Group has proposed the creation of 10,000 summer jobs by 2026. This initiative, done in partnership with the Toronto Youth Cabinet, seeks to engage non-profits and government agencies to provide essential mentorship, networking, and meaningful job opportunities for youth aged 15-24.

Charter Challenge

Taking legal action against the Community Care and Recovery Act supports people who use substances and are struggling with the closure of supervised consumption sites. While the case is ongoing, we are proud to have received an injunction from the court, allowing our Kensington Market Overdose Prevention Site to remain open.

Shelter and Support Board Advocacy Coalition

We are proud to be a partner of the Shelter and Support Board Advocacy Coalition (SSBAC).

Founded in 2023 by Fred Victor, the Shelter and Support Board Advocacy Coalition (SSBAC) addresses systemic challenges faced by shelters by developing a unified voice from executives and board members. The goals of SSBAC are to:

1) Achieve strategic objectives for each agency (e.g., fair wages for staff)

2) Promote systemic change in the shelter and supportive housing sector

3) Encourage collaboration among non-profit Boards and sector associations
